Nekton's mission is to explore the depths of the ocean to reveal the unknown for the benefit of humankind Nekton Oxford Deep Ocean Research Institute (Nekton) undertakes multidisciplinary scientific research into the state of the deep ocean, the planet’s most critical yet least explored ecosystem. Our research is focused on the Bathyal Zone (200m to 3000m), the home of the greatest biodiversity of marine species. Nekton’s discoveries inform global decision makers and ignite public interest to catalyse change. Our Missions unite international partners to develop the leadership, tools, knowledge and capacity across marine research, ocean policy, conservation, public engagement and education to more effectively govern our oceans. As a centre for innovation, Nekton invests in initiatives that accelerate scientific discovery and ocean governance.
