The Österreichisches Rotes Kreuz is a large non-profit humanitarian organization based in Vienna. Founded in 1880 as the national institution for humanitarian aid, it delivers a broad range of services including emergency medical response, blood donation, health and social services, disaster preparedness and relief, and development cooperation, along with activities related to humanitarian law, migration and search services, education, and youth work. It operates in a federated structure with a central secretariat, nine state associations, and 133 district offices, supported by thousands of full-time staff and tens of thousands of volunteers. As part of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it coordinates with its three components to provide aid across 192 countries. In May 2026, it partnered with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society on the TESFA project, with funding support from the Austrian Development Agency, illustrating ongoing international collaboration.
