A 2030 District is a locally organized, private/public partnership among stakeholders within a significant, commercial or institutional area in a city. Districts demonstrate that reductions in energy, water, and transportation emissions can be achieved through collaboration, leveraged financing, and shared District Member Resources. Districts are established by local groups, bringing together property owners,
managers and developers, local government officials, businesses, and community institutions. Together they develop and implement creative strategies, best practices and verification methods for measuring progress towards a common goal: the 2030 Challenge targets.

Climate change solutions and strategies will vary among cities, depending on climate and geography. 2030 Districts are unique in their flexibility. Consistent measurement of results of the efficiency and carbon reduction strategies across Districts, is key to the success of the 2030 Districts model.
