A Very Special Place, Inc. (AVSP) is a Staten Island-based nonprofit organization founded in 1974 as a 501(c)(3) charity. Its mission is to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead fuller lives through comprehensive programs that provide guidance, support, and opportunities for independence and community inclusion. AVSP offers a broad range of services, including six Day Habilitation programs tailored to different need levels, and a Supported Employment Program that includes job training and a full-service training cafe called Harvest Café. The organization also provides an After School Program for children, in-home residential habilitation with Family Education & Training outreach, and recreation offerings such as a Community Center and Creative Arts Network. A Self-Directed Services Program supports families who choose to self-direct services by providing on-staff Fiscal Intermediaries to assist with administration and billing.
