A Window Between Worlds is a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles that uses a healing arts program to support individuals and communities affected by violence and trauma. It collaborates with more than 300 direct service organizations to integrate creative expression into trauma-informed work, backed by trainings, curricula, and ongoing guidance for program partners. Founded in 1991, AWBW has partnered with over 800 direct service organizations and trained more than 4,700 Windows Facilitators who have helped more than 350,000 children and adults use art as a tool for reflection, empowerment, and transformation. Its facilitator network spans 39 states and six countries, delivering art-based opportunities to people who have experienced domestic violence, homelessness, child abuse, incarceration, sexual assault, and other traumas. The approach centers on a Window of Time — a safe, non-judgmental space where participants can authentically express identity and experiences, facilitating healing, and in October 2023 AWBW received the Transforming Trauma award.
