The Academy of American Poets is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering appreciation for contemporary poetry and supporting American poets. Headquartered in New York City, New York, it counts members across the United States and beyond and engages a broad audience through its programs. It runs Poets.org, the world's largest publicly funded website for poets and poetry, and originated National Poetry Month. Its offerings include the Poem-a-Day series and American Poets magazine, along with Teach This Poem and other resources for K-12 educators. The organization also hosts a yearly series of poetry readings and special events, including an April gala, and administers American Poets Prizes and Fellowships. In February 2026, Gabrielle Calvocoressi was named a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.
