The Academy of Ancient Music is a Cambridge-based orchestra that specializes in Baroque and classical repertoire, founded more than five decades ago by Christopher Hogwood. It pursues historically informed performance through period instruments and primary sources to illuminate music with clarity and energy. The ensemble has released more than 300 albums and now records on its own label, earning recognition from Classic BRIT, Gramophone, and Edison awards while attracting a global listening audience online. In performance, it holds notable roles as Associate Ensemble at Barbican Centre in London and Teatro San Cassiano in Venice, and as Orchestra-in-Residence at the University of Cambridge and The Apex in Bury St Edmunds. Beyond concerts, AAM supports education and participation through its AAMplify initiative, partnering with UK music colleges to run side-by-side sessions, masterclasses, and other activities that connect conservatoire training with professional historical performance. Recent developments include a planned partnership with Circa in June 2026, followed by a Circa collaboration for a project around Beethoven's The Creatures of Prometheus scheduled for 2027.
