Accelrys is a software development company based in San Diego, California, with a small workforce of 2–10 employees. It was founded in 2001 through the merger of five science-focused software firms—Molecular Simulations Inc, Synopsys Scientific Systems, Oxford Molecular, the Genetics Computer Group, and Synomics Ltd—and it later added SciTegic through a 2004 acquisition. The company expanded its portfolio through additional acquisitions, including Contur Software, VelQuest Corp, Aegis Analytical Corp, Vialis AG, ChemSW, Inc., and QUMAS, to broaden its scientific informatics and product lifecycle management offerings. In 2010, Accelrys merged with Symyx Technologies, integrating electronic laboratory notebook capabilities and content from MDL Information Systems into its offerings. In 2014, Dassault Systèmes acquired Accelrys and launched BIOVIA as a combination of Accelrys’ life sciences and materials sciences solutions with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform; in 2018 Accelrys announced the acquisition of QUMAS.
