It was founded in 2001 through the merger of five science-focused software firms—Molecular Simulations Inc, Synopsys Scientific Systems, Oxford Molecular, the Genetics Computer Group, and Synomics Ltd—and it later added SciTegic through a 2004 acquisition. The company expanded its portfolio through additional acquisitions, including Contur Software, VelQuest Corp, Aegis Analytical Corp, Vialis AG, ChemSW, Inc., and QUMAS, to broaden its scientific informatics and product lifecycle management offerings.
