Access Books is a philanthropic fundraising organization based in Los Angeles, California, focused on distributing quality, high-interest books to school, classroom, and community libraries in the greater Southern California region. Since 1999 it has donated more than a million books to inner-city schools where the majority of students live at or below the poverty line, with many families of color and immigrant backgrounds represented among the student population; the program reaches roughly 18,000 pre-kindergarten through middle school students each year. The organization operates within the nonprofit education and literacy sector, providing a tangible resource to expand access to reading materials for students who may have limited outside-the-classroom opportunities. Its work is centered on expanding libraries in economically disadvantaged communities, aiming to broaden students’ exposure to other worlds through books while supporting local schools and communities. A recent collaboration noted is a partnership with Evols, announced in late 2020, to fundraise and deliver thousands of books to students in economically disadvantaged Bay Area communities, reflecting ongoing partnerships that support its mission.
