ACRIA is a New York-based research services organization focused on HIV, working toward a world where all people with HIV receive treatment and support and transmissions are eliminated. Founded in 1991 by physicians, activists, and people living with HIV, it introduced a community-based, activist approach to studying new HIV treatments and has contributed to the development of 20 FDA-approved medicines. The organization operates from New York City with a relatively small staff. Its work spans Research Programs and a Training Center that educate HIV-positive individuals and caregivers worldwide, and the Center on HIV & Aging is recognized as an international authority on aging and HIV. In 2017, ACRIA acquired Love Heals, the Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education, becoming the largest provider of sexual health and HIV prevention education in New York City schools, and formed a strategic partnership with GMHC to advance service, research, and policy.
