The A+D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles examines how architecture and design are defined and practiced, spanning ideas from concept to professional work. It highlights the ways technology, art, scale, and urbanism intersect with design and influence everyday life and the surrounding world. Through exhibits, symposia, multidisciplinary projects, and educational and community programming, the institution presents ongoing discussion on contemporary issues shaping the built environment. Founded in 2001 by Stephen Kanner, Joe Addo, and Bernard Zimmerman, the museum has moved from its original location to Downtown Los Angeles' Arts District, where its programming has become more experimental. In 2020 it reorganized as a hybrid physical-digital platform to broaden access and reach beyond regional boundaries, while maintaining a local focus in Los Angeles as a small to mid-sized cultural institution at the intersection of architecture, design, and social and environmental justice.
