Adafruit Industries is a New York-based manufacturer in the appliances, electrical, and electronics sector, employing 51-200 people. The company was founded in 2005 by MIT engineer Limor "Ladyada" Fried, with the aim of providing an online resource for learning electronics and producing well-designed products for makers of all ages and skill levels. It has expanded to offer tools, equipment, and electronics curated and tested by Limor before entering the Adafruit store, and it is a 100% woman-owned manufacturing company with M/WBE, WBE, and WOSB certifications. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Adafruit operated as an essential service and manufacturing business under NYC Executive Order 202.6 and was appointed to the City of New York's Small Business Sector Advisory Council to help restart the NYC economy; it subsequently co-chaired the Industrial Working Group to redefine sector needs. In 2024, Adafruit moved to Industry City in Brooklyn, NY, a six-million-square-foot ecosystem, and it has continued to announce new hardware developments, including products such as the ESP32-S2 Feather variant with w.FL connector and related releases through 2024–2025.
