Addyston Police Dept

Law EnforcementOhio, United States11-50 Employees

The Addyston Police Department is a small municipal law enforcement agency serving the village of Addyston in the southwest corner of Ohio along the Ohio River, about 10 miles west of downtown Cincinnati. It operates from 235 Main Street and serves a community of roughly 1,000 residents. Addyston was founded in 1891 by Matthew Addy, and the village council held its first meeting that year to establish governance for a growing population. The 1900 census indicates a diverse workforce connected to local industry, with many Kentuckians and others from southern states coming to work in the pipe foundry, along with residents from Indiana, Ohio, England, Germany, and Ireland connected to canal work. The village historically developed two principal commercial areas; the west end housed brick buildings designed by John Boll (one still in use) while the east end along First Street offered groceries, a hotel and bar, and a confectionery, with Peter Wycoff's lumber mill noted on First Street in 1891.
