Africa Development Promise is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to drive the collective action of rural entrepreneurial women to advance sustainable business and economic independence in rural East African communities. We envision flourishing rural communities where women can contribute their creativity, innovation and hard work to bring prosperity and economic independence. With programs in Rwanda and Uganda, Africa Development Promise begins with agriculture because it is a way of life in Eastern Africa, and over 70 percent of rural women rely on subsistence farming for food security and employment. We move women farmers from food for subsistence to food for business using the cooperative model of enterprise. We deliver programs that strengthen cooperative management, governance, efficiency, and sustainability, while also building strong technical skills. Africa Development Promise also provides much-needed farm infrastructure support such as greenhouses, irrigation systems, and tools that relieves laborious work, improves efficiency, and productivity. Through cooperatives, women not only build their business know-how and technical capacity, but they also earn a sustainable income and build their savings through cooperative savings and loans associations.
