AIA Virginia is a state component of the American Institute of Architects, operating within the professional training and coaching landscape to support architects and allied professionals across Virginia. Based in Richmond, it has represented the profession's interests since 1914, aiming for statewide impact through advocacy, education, and professional development. The organization collaborates with five local chapters — Blue Ridge, Central Virginia, Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia and Richmond — with West Virginia forming the Region of the Virginias to elect a representative director to the national AIA board. As a small, member-driven entity, AIA Virginia has advanced initiatives such as knowledge community grants, introduced in 2022 to support committees including the Historic Resources Committee and the Committee on the Environment. It has continued to develop education and leadership programs, including the appointment of a director of education in 2023. In January 2026, AIA Virginia participated in AIAVA 2026 Hill Day, reflecting its ongoing engagement in advocacy and public policy affecting the architectural profession.
