AIR, the Alliance for Innovative Regulation, is a nonprofit, non-membership organization in the financial services sector. Based in Washington, D.C., it was founded in 2019 by Jo Ann Barefoot and David Ehrich. The organization aims to promote a fair, innovative, and resilient financial system through responsible use of new technology, by linking regulation, finance, technology, and society to encourage global collaboration. It collaborates with government and industry to develop and scale responsible innovation capable of addressing entrenched problems such as financial exclusion, discrimination, deceptive or predatory practices, climate change, economic instability, and financial crimes including human trafficking. In June 2023 AIR announced several staffing additions, including a senior advisor and program directors.
