Al Ghurair University, located in Academic City Dubai, United Arab Emirates, opened in 1999 as one of the country’s first private universities, with a focus on advancing the UAE's learning environment and helping students reach their potential. The institution specialized in education administration programs and operated as a mid-sized higher education provider within the region's expanding sector. It sat within the broader context of private higher education growth as the UAE positioned itself as a global hub for education.

After more than two decades in operation, AGU closed its doors at the end of the 2021-22 academic year on 31 August 2022. The Al Ghurair family continues to support education in the UAE and wider region through the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education, which has supported more than 60,000 Emirati and Arab youth since its founding in 2015, including initiatives in the USA, UK, and Canada. In May 2021, Al Ghurair Investment announced a collaboration with AGU to offer internship programmes to students, providing on-the-job training opportunities.
