The Alaska Raptor Center is a not-for-profit organization based on 17 acres in Sitka, Alaska, within the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska. It functions as an avian hospital and sanctuary, while also serving as an educational facility and a visitor destination. Founded in 1980 as a volunteer-driven backyard effort, it has grown into a year-round operation with Raptors-in-Residence on its campus. Its mission is to support wild populations of raptors and other avian species through rehabilitation, education, and research. The center serves patients—injured or ill raptors and other birds—as well as a broad community of visitors, donors, students, and other beneficiaries. In 2022, ARC partnered with Mecklenburg County Park and Rec to create Quest, a nature experience at Latta Nature Preserve, illustrating its collaboration with public agencies to expand access to wildlife education.
