The Alaska State Troopers operate as the state's law enforcement division, with a mission to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. The division maintains a central headquarters and five geographic detachments that provide patrol, enforcement, and search and rescue coverage across Alaska. Its eight core missions guide daily work, including maintaining public peace and order, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, conducting investigations, supporting other law enforcement and governmental agencies, addressing allegations of abuse, engaging with citizens, and delivering current training to criminal justice partners. Based in Anchorage, Alaska, the division serves the state and coordinates with other agencies to respond to public concerns and inquiries. The Alaska State Troopers represent a mid-sized state law enforcement body with a structured presence across the region. In April 2023, Lieutenant Michael Zweifel was promoted to Captain, reflecting leadership changes within the department.
