Aldersgate is a large, dynamic United Methodist church located in Northern Virginia known for outstanding worship, hands-on service and mission opportunities, and an emphasis on programs for children and youth. Aldersgate Church was founded on October 21, 1956, to serve the growing Fort Hunt area south of Alexandria and first met in Hollin Hall Elementary School. The residential neighborhood of Waynewood was under construction. The first service at the Collingwood location was on October 4, 1959 in what is now called Founders Hall. Regular services began in the current contemporary gothic style sanctuary on December 20, 1964. In 2006, Aldersgate celebrated its 50th anniversary with 50 days for 50 Years of Service to Christ and Community. Because of Aldersgate’s active role in the local community and our heart for mission work, the Virginia Conference has asked us to take on the role of planting a new faith community in Northern Virginia in the Kingstowne area.
