Our story begins in Cape Town in 1973, when Dr Allan Gray established the business around his contrarian approach to investing. His distinctive philosophy is all about resisting trends, not following the crowd and finding opportunity where nobody else is looking. 

To this day, the contrarian approach is applied consistently across our business as we take a longer-term, fundamentals-driven approach to investing. It’s an approach that takes practice, patience and a commitment to our own convictions.

Allan Gray Australia was established in 2005. We launched our flagship Allan Gray Australia Equity Fund in 2006, followed by the Stable Fund in 2011 and the Balanced Fund in 2017.
