Alliance for Justice is a national nonprofit association headquartered in Washington, D.C., and founded in 1979. It comprises more than 120 member organizations that share progressive values and a commitment to an equitable, just, and free society. The organization focuses on maintaining a fair and independent judiciary, preserving access to the courts, and empowering advocates to pursue their causes. Its programmatic structure rests on two pillars: a Justice Program aimed at safeguarding constitutional rights and legal protections in the courts, and a Bolder Advocacy Program that builds nonprofit advocacy capacity and supports funders. In August 2025, Alliance for Justice released a Nonprofit Self-Assessment tool to help nonprofits assess compliance with federal and state advocacy tracking and reporting requirements and to identify opportunities to strengthen advocacy capacity. In addition to its program work, AFJ has a history of launching research initiatives and projects, including the Judicial Selection Project and reports on economic justice and Supreme Court ethics reforms.
