Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society recognizes adult learners who maintain high academic standards while balancing work and other responsibilities. The organization was founded in the winter of 1945-46 by Dr. Rollin B. Posey, then dean of University College at Northwestern University, to encourage evening students early in their programs. Today it operates through more than 300 chartered chapters across the United States and is supported by a small staff based in Charleston, Illinois. Its aim is to bring together accomplished students and faculty and to provide members exposure to interests beyond their own disciplines. The primary audience comprises nontraditional adult learners pursuing educational objectives while managing life responsibilities, with the organization positioned within the philanthropic and higher-education ecosystem.
