The American Academy of Dramatic Arts is a higher education institution that trains actors for professional work in theater and on camera. Founded in 1884 at the Lyceum Theatre with 118 students, it has a long history in American acting education and is based in New York City. Its New York campus occupies six floors in the Colony Club building in Midtown Manhattan, including classrooms, rehearsal spaces, dance studios, dressing rooms, costume and prop departments, a production workshop, a student lounge, and a library for acting students. The campus also houses media studios and three theatres—the 169-seat proscenium, 164-seat thrust, and 103-seat arena—for classes, rehearsals and productions.
