The American Association of Blacks in Energy is a nonprofit organization established in 1977 to ensure that African Americans and other minorities have input in energy policy discussions. It comprises more than 1,600 professionals across all sectors of the energy industry and maintains about 40 chapters nationwide, including in states, metropolitan areas, and college campuses, with the association based in Washington, D.C. The organization leverages member expertise to analyze energy policy and serves as a resource for community leaders, consumers, policymakers, and regulators regarding how policies affect underrepresented communities. 

A primary objective is to develop a pipeline of African Americans into leadership roles within the energy sector. It operates a scholarship program supporting students pursuing science, mathematics, engineering, and technology, with awards at local, regional, and national levels. Members also access professional development through chapter meetings, regional and national conferences, quarterly board meetings, and monthly webinars that provide updates on energy policy and community engagement.
