The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is a national organization that serves as the primary advocate and coordinating body for osteopathic medical education in the United States. It supports colleges of osteopathic medicine in attracting and training physicians who practice osteopathic medicine across settings from primary care to pediatrics, with a focus on treating the whole person. AACOM helps establish standards of excellence for medical education at COMs and supports graduate medical education through internships and residencies at U.S. medical centers, hospitals, clinics, and health systems. Based in Bethesda, Maryland, AACOM was founded in 1898 and operates within the education administration programs sector. As of June 2025, there are 43 accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine delivering instruction at 69 teaching locations across 36 states, and AACOM engages in advocacy for public health policy while promoting medical research and innovation.
