Established in 1966, the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) is an association of veterinary medical colleges and related departments that advances the profession and prepares future veterinarians to meet evolving global needs. It aims to protect the health and wellbeing of people, animals, and the environment through the advancement of veterinary medicine. The organization represents more than 40,000 faculty, staff, and students and includes COE-accredited veterinary colleges and schools across the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, as well as departments of veterinary science and comparative medicine in the United States. Based in Washington, D.C., the AAVMC operates within the higher education sector to support member institutions and the broader academic veterinary medical community. In 2026, Emma Read was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Kathryn Meurs was named to lead the AAVMC Board.
