The American Bach Soloists (ABS) is a San Francisco–based classical ensemble dedicated to presenting Johann Sebastian Bach's cantatas through historically informed performance. Founded in 1989, the group gave its first public concerts in 1990 at St. Stephen’s Church in Belvedere, where it maintains Artist-in-Residence status. The ensemble brings together leading vocalists and period-instrument players to bring Bach's music to contemporary audiences. Under the leadership of co-founder and Music Director Jeffrey Thomas, ABS is widely recognized as a leading interpreter of Bach and Baroque music, shaping its artistic direction over more than two decades. The organization also operates an educational program, the American Bach Soloists Academy, launched in 2010 to offer advanced conservatory‑level students and emerging professionals a multidisciplinary training in historically informed performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 2013, the Jeffrey Thomas Award was established to honor exceptionally gifted emerging professionals in the field of early music.
