The American Conference is a collegiate athletics conference in the spectator sports industry, headquartered in Irving, Texas, with its conference office located at 545 East John Carpenter Freeway, Third Floor, Irving 75062. It was founded in 1979 and reconstituted in 2013 as the American Athletic Conference, and it operates as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The conference sponsors 20 sports—nine for men and 11 for women—and comprises institutions including the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Army (football only), UNC Charlotte, East Carolina University, Florida Atlantic University, University of Memphis, Navy (football only), University of North Texas, Rice University, University of South Florida, Temple University, University of Texas at San Antonio, Tulane University, University of Tulsa, and Wichita State University (basketball and Olympic sports).
