AGTA is a non-profit trade association serving professionals in the United States and Canada who work with natural colored gemstones and cultured pearls. It aims to promote long-term stability and integrity in these industries through education, publicity, industry events, government and industry relations, and materials for trade and consumers. The organization maintains high ethical standards, including a Code of Ethics and full disclosure of gemstone enhancements that exceed federal guidelines. It connects leading gem cutters, designers, retailers, and buyers through major events such as AGTA GemFair in Tucson and Las Vegas and the Spectrum Awards competition in New York. Founded in 1981 and based in Dallas, Texas, AGTA counts more than 1,200 members across the United States and Canada, representing wholesalers, jewelry manufacturers, designers, retailers, estate dealers, suppliers, and colored diamond dealers. The association supports standards and education for the gem and cultured pearl trade, and in 2026 it continued active participation in its GemFair events and related Spectrum program.
