The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is a national professional association for immigration law practitioners, comprising more than 18,000 attorneys and law professors who teach and practice in the field. As a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, it provides continuing legal education, information, and professional services to its members through its 36 chapters and more than 50 national committees. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Its members represent a range of clients, including U.S. families seeking permanent residency for relatives, U.S. employers seeking global talent, and foreign students, entertainers, athletes, and asylum seekers, with many matters handled on a pro bono basis. Founded in 1946, AILA supports immigration professionals and their clients through professional development and ethical resources, including initiatives such as the Ethics Compendium and the establishment of AILA Affiliated Paralegals.
