The American Insurance Association (AIA) is a trade association serving the property-casualty segment of the insurance industry. It represents roughly 300 member insurers and coordinates industry interests, with these members writing more than $100 billion in premiums annually. The organization is based in Washington, DC. Member companies underwrite a wide array of property-casualty products, including personal and commercial auto coverage, commercial property and liability for small businesses, workers’ compensation, homeowners, medical malpractice, and product liability. In 2019, AIA merged with the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America to form the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA).
