American Opera Projects is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit in the performing arts that identifies, develops, and presents new and innovative works of music theater by both emerging and established artists. It aims to engage audiences through immersive, transformative productions and to act as a catalyst for revitalizing contemporary opera and musical theater in the United States with its emphasis on new American works.

AOP's productions have appeared at a range of prominent venues and festivals, including Lincoln Center Festival and London’s Royal Opera House, as well as New York City Opera and other cultural institutions. The organization operates as a small to mid-sized nonprofit and holds IRS recognition as a 501(c)3 entity, with memberships in professional and community networks such as OPERA America, Fort Greene Association, Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance, the New York Opera Alliance, and ART/NY. In April 2026, Operaprojects announced the launch of its official LINE account for the hitaru Opera Project, reflecting a recent digital outreach development.
