The American Poolplayers Association (APA) operates a nationwide system of amateur pool leagues, offering weekly 8-Ball and 9-Ball play through a network of local Franchise Operators. Founded in 1979 as the National Pool League by Terry Bell and Larry Hubbart, the organization was renamed the APA in 1981 and is based in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. It has grown to more than 275,000 members and includes affiliated programs in Canada and Japan, known respectively as the Canadian Poolplayers Association and the Japanese Poolplayers Association.

Central to the APA's approach is The Equalizer, a handicapping and scoring system that enables players of varying abilities to compete on a level field. The association runs national events such as the APA National Team Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship, which is open to both APA members and nonmembers. In 2025, the organization participated in the World 8-Ball Championship at the Westgate Las Vegas, with 793 teams qualifying.
