Founded in 1948, the American Research Center in Egypt is a private nonprofit organization based in the United States that brings together educational and cultural institutions, scholars, and private individuals to advance research on Egyptian history and culture. ARCE supports its mission through grants, fieldwork, and field schools, and maintains a long-standing collaboration with Egyptian authorities, including the Ministry of Antiquities and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, to help protect, preserve, and promote Egypt’s cultural heritage. 

Its work is aimed at scholarly audiences as well as institutions involved in Egyptian studies, and it seeks to strengthen American-Egyptian cultural collaboration by facilitating partnerships that connect U.S. and Egyptian researchers and cultural professionals. A notable recent development is a 2024 partnership to establish a Central Information System for data rescue, training, and needs assessment in support of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, announced through the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
