The American West Heritage Center is a living history museum in northern Utah’s Cache Valley, near Wellsville. It was formed in 1995 when two Utah State University programs merged to create a nonprofit foundation focused on preserving the living history of the American West from 1820 to 1920. The center operates under a contract with Utah State University to manage nearly 300 acres of open space and historic structures, offering living-history demonstrations, reenactments, school field trips, camps, exhibits, workshops, seasonal events, internships, and handcart treks in partnership with the Utah Department of Natural Resources. It serves students, educators, and other visitors seeking immersive, hands-on learning about early western history. Based in Wellsville, Utah, the organization maintains a small staff and operates within the Museums, Historical Sites, and Zoos sector. In 2021 it announced a partnership with Yellowstone Bear World to broaden its programming.
