America’s Promise Alliance (APA) has developed a national model for field building that strengthens the organizations serving young people and unites them in powerful collective action. Through our Alliance community, we support the CEOs and executive teams of 170+ of the leading youth-serving nonprofits in the United States—including both national organizations and place-based organizations in our partner cities of Atlanta and Denver. Together, these organizations reach 34 million young people each year, employ more than 12,000 staff, and direct over $2.4 billion in annual spending. APA’s work focuses on three interconnected issue areas that shape opportunity and mobility for the next generation: aligning K–12 education and youth development, reimagining postsecondary to workforce pathways, and increasing civic and democratic engagement. Each of these areas is critical on its own, but the barriers young people face cut across them in ways no single organization can solve alone. APA provides the infrastructure and stewardship necessary for member organizations to deepen their impact, navigate new dynamics in the field, and launch collective action initiatives that address challenges too complex for any one organization to tackle on its own. Over the last two years, participating leaders have spent 15,000 hours engaged in Alliance programming. APA has demonstrated a significant impact on improving organizational efficacy and has launched four new collective action initiatives.
