Angel Faces® is the only week-long retreat offered in the United States for adolescent girls with facial differences or large body surface trauma due to burn or trauma-related injuries. The Angel Faces® retreat teaches girls how to increase self-confidence and improve their self-image while embracing their trauma and related disfigurement. Licensed therapists lead sessions on trauma and loss issues, and the girls participate in art, journaling and verbal expression. They learn positive self-image through fun practice sessions on how to handle stares, teasing and unwanted questions, goal setting exercises, yoga, and swimming. They also receive private consultations with clinical corrective cosmetic professionals on the application of corrective cosmetics for their specific needs. The program has four components: LEVEL 1 RETREAT Teach girls how to increase self-confidence and improve their self-image while embracing their trauma and related disfigurement. Focus is on identifying trauma and loss issues followed by methods to facilitate emotional healing as well as, create bonds of friendship with peers who share in adversity, due to similar trauma. LEVEL 2 RETREAT Provides leadership and mentorship training for young women. Returning attendees engage in sessions and discussions designed to reveal self-leadership so they are equipped to take responsibility for success in their personal, academic, and work lives. MENTORSHIP Offer individual psychological support to girls as they navigate life challenges. Groom informal leaders within the growing community allowing Angel Faces to strengthen its ongoing support to retreat attendees by providing real-life, practical skill-building and coaching. ANGELS IN FLIGHT Through social media platforms, webcam sessions and newsletters, girls receive continual reinforcement of learned skills and maintain friendships within their community by providing support throughout the year as new challenges arise.
