ANR, the French National Research Agency, operates as a government body funding project-based research across all scientific disciplines for public research organisations, universities, and private companies including SMEs. It relies on competitive peer review conducted to international standards to allocate support and runs instruments and programmes that promote creativity, openness, and collaboration, with a particular emphasis on links between academia and industry. Since 2010 it has also served as the lead manager of France’s Investments for the Future programme in higher education and research, responsible for project selection, funding, and monitoring. The agency is based in Paris in the Île-de-France region and maintains a sizeable workforce. Through its funding and programme activities, ANR supports the aim of strengthening the competitiveness and international influence of French research in Europe and worldwide. In July 2025, ANR announced the SEALENCE Industrial Chair on elastomer solutions for naval acoustics and waterproof design, developed with Centrale Nantes, Naval Group, and Cetim.
