The Architects Registration Board is the UK’s independent statutory regulator for architects, operating in the public interest to safeguard those who use architectural services and to support practitioners through regulated standards. It maintains a public register of over 42,000 architects, a resource that ensures only registered individuals may legally call themselves architects in the UK, and it sets the qualifications, experience, and conduct expected of professionals in the field. In addition to registration, ARB investigates complaints about architects’ conduct or practice, and about misrepresentation of architectural status, functioning as the UK’s Competent Authority for architecture. Based in London, ARB serves a regulatory function within the government administration sector, guiding the profession and safeguarding professional practice in the built environment. Recent developments include strategic work on equality, diversity, and inclusion, as well as ongoing updates to codes of conduct and professional education pathways to support robust regulation of architectural practice.
