Founded in 1952 and situated on a 98-acre site west of the city, the museum positions itself as a regional hub for conservation and hands-on learning, serving a broad audience interested in natural history and environmental stewardship. Recent developments include community-focused outreach and educational programs, such as collaborations with local schools and public engagement events like NatureFest. The organization operates from the Tucson area and maintains a focus on connecting visitors with the desert ecosystem through thorough, place-based learning experiences.
