Founded in New York in 1910 as the Armenian Red Cross, the Armenian Relief Society, Inc. is now an independent, nonsectarian philanthropic organization with a global reach. It operates as an international humanitarian NGO and is a member of the United Nations, advocating for human rights, social justice and civil society. With entities in 26 countries and a membership exceeding 15,000, ARS serves the humanitarian, social and educational needs of Armenians and non-Armenians alike, running programs such as kindergartens, summer camps, schools and scholarships. Its work includes education, health and humanitarian aid and it emphasizes empowering women. The organization is based in Watertown, Massachusetts, and in June 2024 it launched Hearths of Hope.
