APJ is a philanthropic fundraising organization based in Toronto, Ontario, that supports poverty alleviation in the Western Hemisphere through education and employment programs. It originated in a California living room where artists and thinkers gathered after 9/11 to engage with social justice issues and evolved into on-the-ground relief work in Haiti. In collaboration with Haitian partners, APJ established two institutions, the Academy for Peace and Justice, a free high school, and the Artists Institute, a free post-secondary school, that together provide education and employment opportunities to over 4,000 youth and adults who would otherwise have no viable alternative. The organization operates in the philanthropic sector, drawing on artistic networks to mobilize resources for community-led programs and social-action initiatives. In May 2017, APJ partnered with Faherty Brand to support its education-focused work in Haiti.
