ARTIVE is a small nonprofit organization based in New London, Connecticut, that maintains a universal, digital archive for works of art and cultural property. The database consolidates information about at-risk, stolen, looted, missing, and destroyed items and is intended as a shared resource for professionals and the public to enhance safety in the art market and help preserve cultural heritage. Positioned in the cultural heritage and arts sector, ARTIVE aims to protect looted or illicitly transferred works and uphold the integrity of the international art market by indexing data for posterity. The archive features an extensive set of searchable fields—more than 500—and supports storing non-image files as part of its records. The organization seeks to make heritage information accessible to the general public, professionals, and the trade in a safe, preserved form. In February 2020, ARTIVE partnered with Art Vancouver Inc to support artists and exhibitors navigating market insecurities.
