ArtSpan is a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that connects the public to visual arts in the Bay Area through programs such as SF Open Studios, youth and adult education, and art-centered events. It provides a platform for artists to thrive and aims to foster a community that values the arts. SF Open Studios is the country’s oldest and largest open studios program, a month-long fall event that features more than 600 artists working in their studios. Each weekend, self-guided tours invite patrons to engage with artists and gain insight into the life of a practicing artist, while the program helps artists grow mailing lists, attract new admirers, and sustain a livelihood. Another initiative, Art-In-Neighborhoods, gives artists across mediums and career stages opportunities to present work at San Francisco locations with local and tourist appeal, supporting discovery, sales, and neighborhood vitality. ArtSpan also offers year-round Artist and ArtLover Memberships that provide professional development, technical assistance workshops, networking outings, and curated events such as private collection tours and educational panels. A recent development is Café Alma partnering with ArtSpan in 2025 to collaborate on a project connected to SF Open Studios.
