Asphalt Zipper, Inc. is the world wide leader in portable reclamation machines.  They manufacture and sell an asphalt grinding machine called, the Asphalt Zipper.  This machine is an attachment engineered to fit on backhoes and Wheel Loaders.  It has its own power plant with horsepower ranging from 110hp to 260hp.

The Asphalt Zipper differs from larger grinding machines in that it has a proprietary bucket slot in it where the bucket of the host machine fits and is tightly secured by hydraulic clamps.  This configuration literally transforms the loader or backhoe into a powerful asphalt pulverizing machine capable of grinding asphalt up to 12 inches thick in one pass. 

Models start with cutting width ranges from 18” - 84”, with standard model widths 30”, 36”, 42”, 48” and 72”.  Because of their design, they are able to accomplish the same production as the larger self-propelled grinding machines but at a fraction of the cost.  Because of this, many smaller municipalities are now able to purchase their own machines and benefit from a full-depth reclamation process for their road and street repairs thus having longer-lasting repairs at a fraction of traditional costs.
