Assembly for Action was a small, student-run program based in Gainesville, Florida, that operated from 2018 through 2020. During each year, it directed nearly $30,000 to support 12 student-led community service projects in partnership with local nonprofits. About 50 university students participated annually in a Day of Service alongside more than 10 local nonprofit organizations. The program featured a two-weekend conference where Action Scholars engaged in seminars and workshops on community development and nonprofit management, guided by close to 15 faculty and community leaders, culminating in a grant-writing competition to develop capacity-building proposals for partner organizations. In the following year, the grants' winning Action Plans were implemented by the scholars in collaboration with their nonprofit partners. The initiative arose from a collaborative effort among various student organizations, University of Florida departments, the Bob Graham Center for Public Service, and numerous nonprofits across Gainesville.
