The Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (AIMS) is a non-profit organization that coordinates a network of about 120 independent schools across Maryland and the District of Columbia. These member schools educate more than 45,000 students in grades PK–12. AIMS provides professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and school trustees, organizing more than 70 events annually. Its activities include the Annual Conference at the Baltimore Convention Center, which attracts more than 2,000 educators and over 100 exhibitors, a technology retreat on the Eastern Shore, and a heads-of-schools conference in Annapolis. In addition to professional development, AIMS offers accreditation services that hold member schools to established standards while supporting ongoing curricular and pedagogical improvements. It pursues public advocacy to safeguard member schools’ independence from governmental regulation. The Executive Director presents to the boards of trustees of AIMS-member schools on strategic environments and trustee decision-making in uncertain times. The organization is based in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
