The Australian Access Federation (AAF) serves as Australia's national identity and access federation for the research and higher education sector. It enables participating organisations to authenticate with a single username and password to access national and international resources. For identity providers, AAF reduces the need to maintain multiple local accounts and streamlines access to online resources, while service providers benefit from simplified access and fewer bilateral agreements. 

Based in Brisbane, Queensland, AAF operates within the NCRIS framework to support a connected and collaborative research ecosystem. In June 2026, it announced a collaboration with the Australian Research Data Commons and other national infrastructures to advance the Australian Federated Data Infrastructure.
