Automotive Manufacturers Private Limited (AMPL) was founded in 1948 and is based in Kurla, Maharashtra. The company began as the main dealer for Leyland Motors in the Bombay, Hyderabad, and Saurashtra regions and assembled around 2,000 Leyland vehicles at its Kurla Works from 1949 to 1955. After Leyland ceased CKD assembly in 1955, AMPL formed ongoing collaborations with Ashok Leyland and expanded its dealership network to include Mahindra & Mahindra in 1958, marketing Ashok Leyland in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat, and Mahindra in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. In 1986 AMPL became a dealer for Maruti Suzuki in Maharashtra, with later expansion to Nagpur, Aurangabad, and Nashik, and the group later added Kobelco construction equipment and, in 2007, assumed the Audi dealership for Andhra Pradesh. Today AMPL operates as a multi-brand distributor and service network across several states, serving motor vehicle manufacturers and their customers through its dealerships and marketing activities. In November 2023 the company inaugurated a 3S facility in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, marking a new expansion of its footprint in northern India.
